The Definition of Robot

Well all know about robot although many of you have different opinion about what robot is. Some of you may associate robot with human like mechanical thing that can imitate human, some other people may associate robot with machine that can be told to do something by its master. All answers are correct because robot is more or less like that.

According to its official definition robot is "A re-programmable, multifunctional manipulator designed to move material, parts, tools, or specialized devices through various programmed motions for the performance of a variety of tasks." This definition is taken from Robot Institute of America, 1979. Although we may a little bit confuse reading the definition, but it says that robot is a thing that can help the work of human being.

While from its function, according to the IBM.com there are three main functions that robot has. They are safety, unpleasantness and also repetition and precision. Safety. The work with dangerous substances like nuclear, radioactive and also many dangerous chemical need robots because if human is directly involved in the operation it may cause bad effect. Unpleasantness. Many works are unpleasant and tedious like welding, assembling certain parts of automotive products and janitorial works are unpleasant for human but still very important. The last function is repetition and precision, as we know that robot does not feel tired so even they do the same thing for a thousand times they will still give the same performance.
